Durban City coach: We have one of the best technical teams in the PSL

Durban City coach Simo Dladla believes they have one of the best technical teams in the Premier Soccer League, who can go all the way to gain promotion to the Betway Premiership.

The Citizens have assembled a strong coaching team which includes first assistant Pitso Dladla, former Bafana Bafana midfielder Macbeth Sibaya (2nd Assistant) and Cyril Mthembu (Performance analyst).

Addressing the media on Wednesday in Umhlanga ahead of the Nedbank Cup last 32, Dladla gave more details on his technical team, that has made club boss Farook Kadodia happy.

"I can safely say that I have one of the best technical teams, the composition of the team is balanced. Of course, we introduced it to the team because it was not there last season,” Dladla said.

“The high-performance department which is led by Cyril Mthembu, it's somebody that is learned, somebody that has put in some work behind his trade and he's added real value to all of us.

“Of course between myself and Pitso, there's a lot of experience there, we've seen so many games and that is experience. We lost some, we won some, so we've learnt a lot along the years and obviously, we have other people who are putting up a solid team.

“We have Thami Gwala on goals, as a goalkeeper coach, he's got enough experience to add real value.

“We have also brought in MacBeth Sibaya who we all know, so he comes in handy as well for when we travel, he stays behind with the remaining players keeping them in shape and obviously focused mentally, spiritually and otherwise, so I would say we are ready for a challenge ahead."

With the club currently leading the Motsepe Foundation log, Dladla shared the mandate from Kadodia, who is very clear about returning to the top flight.

"The chairman has put a mandate and it's clear, he wants number one not even a playoff spot and that comes with a lot of pressure, a lot of heated meetings and a lot of explanations for when things don't go well but we try to avoid those by doing everything that we can to get results but on the same token yes, he's very supportive. We hope that he's going to continue like that," the coach added.
