Dylan Kerr on verge of parting ways with Marumo Gallants

SABC Sport has established that coach Dylan Kerr is on the verge of walking away from his post at Marumo Gallants–just two weeks before the season's kick-off.

It’s believed Gallants, having purchased the topflight status of Moroka Swallows ahead of the 2024/25 campaign, are proposing that Kerr share the responsibility in the dugout with Sundra Govender.

Kerr was roped back into the job as soon as the league approved the sale early last month, and the Englishman was part of the question and answers press conference to unveil their plans for their return to the PSL's elite division.

Speaking to the media, Kerr had confirmed Mpho Maleka as part of his technical team, given their relationship when he was at Gallants two years ago.

However, it now appears the pair aren’t likely to get the chance to work together in the Betway Premiership, where they host Kaizer Chiefs in their opening fixture at the Toyota Stadium in Bloemfontein on 14 September.

Govender was previously head coach of Casric Stars, alongside former Bafana Bafana international Thabo Nthethe, but has been asked to be co-coach with Kerr.

Despite confirming Free State as their base for the season, Gallants have yet to give an update on how they plan to navigate the road ahead with the Swallows players that were still under contract prior to the sale of The Dube Birds.

Abram Sello, now the president at Bahlabane Bantwa, earlier admitted he was aware that buying the club, as a going concern, meant inhering existing contracts.

It now remains to be seen which direction Gallants will take, with just over a month before the 2024/25 league campaign gets underway, and whether they can talk Kerr out of leaving–although SABC Sport is led to believe this is highly unlikely.
