Edin Terzic expresses confidence in Marco Reus' vital role at Dortmund

Borussia Dortmund's recent struggles continued as they secured only a 1-1 draw against VfL Bochum over the weekend.

One conspicuous absence from the action was Marco Reus, who remained on the bench throughout the game, even as Dortmund fervently sought a goal.

In the aftermath of the match, Dortmund's coach, Edin Terzic, shed light on his decision to keep Reus in reserve, reaffirming the pivotal role he envisions for the former club captain in the forthcoming season.

"Ultimately, we withdrew Nmecha due to injury and decided to introduce Salih Ozcan to maintain our midfield presence and minimize vulnerabilities on the counter-attacks," stated Terzic.

"This decision does not reflect any lack of confidence in Marco. We recognise his significance, not only in the past but also in the imminent future."

Reus had previously lost his starting spot towards the end of the preceding season, and he voluntarily relinquished the captaincy during the summer. Nevertheless, he commenced the new campaign with starts in BVB's first two fixtures, following an impressive pre-season.

Felix Nmecha assumed Reus's role in the starting lineup against Bochum, and Ozcan was brought on after Nmecha sustained an injury during the second half.

Reus now anticipates an opportunity to make his mark as Dortmund confront 1. FC Heidenheim in the Bundesliga this Friday. Coach Terzic's faith remains firmly in his corner.
