Egypt tactics against Ghana? More aggression says coach Rui Vitoria

Those who felt Mo Salah-led Egypt appeared a bit tepid when they kicked off their AFCON campaign on Sunday had their opinion verified by coach Rui Vitoria in his press conference this week.

Following their 2-2 draw against Mozambique in the opening game, where they needed their captain to rescue them via a late penalty awarded after a VAR check, Vitoria was still unhappy with what he saw even days later.

Egypt now take on Ghana in Abidjan and their coach wants “aggression”.

"We have a tough game but most important is to be more disciplined inside the tactical decisions. To be also more aggressive in the duels because in some moments we did good things and in some moments we lost the concentration, it was bad decisions in that moment," Vitoria said.

Ghana will not be slouches and perhaps pose more of a threat than Mozambique considering they too are searching for their first win of the competition.

Vitoria said his message to his charges was all about urging them to be switched on.

"We know that we will face very good players, in front they are very strong also and if you don't have this level of concentration, it's difficult. So, we have to improve our moment when we are defending and if we do this, we will be better for the next match. So, the players know that, the players know what we have to do and we are training very well. The reaction was very good. So, I'm very optimistic of course," Vitoria added.

His comments suggested he could ring the changes when he names the line-up against The Black Stars tonight, but Vitoria played his cards close to his chest.

"Of course, I don't want to say how we'll play and who will be the players but each game we have a different story and tomorrow will be a different game than the previous game. So, we'll choose the players that can give the answers for what we want. I don't change my mindset easily."
