Emphatic 12-0 victory books semis ticket for Bantwana

The SA U17 girls' team are through to the semi-finals of the Cosafa Cup in Malawi, following a 12-0 thrashing of Namibia, making it back-to-back wins at the tournament that kicked off on Thursday.

Coach Dalisile Mbatha says her charges continue to show they are serious contenders for the championship having also defeated the hosts 4-1 in their Group A opener.

‘Bantwana’ will now wait to learn their last four opponents on Monday.

"It was a very good game, it showed that the girls were hungry for a win. Nothing could stop them during the game, they were goin all out. Attacking and defending at the same time. I was really impressed,” Mbatha said.

They tested us for strength and speed, creativity and we tried to make sure that we don't concede and concentrated for 90 minutes,"

Mbatha says having nine different goal scorers over the two matches is a testament to their determination to go all the way.

"It speaks a lot about team work, we don't play with individuals, we play with a team. So, I'm very happy that the girls have played and made sure that they win these two games,” she explained.

“It's about nine players that have scored so far. It really shows that I can trust them with anything that we do. They are hungry for goals and they want to win this," the coach explained,”

One of the in-form attackers is Adrielle Mibe. She scooped the player of the match against Namibia and says this is good for their confidence.

"I'm feeling very good, very proud of the team. Proud of how we played. Proud of our reaction towards the game, within the game and I'm happy,” Mibe said.

“I'm overjoyed in fact and I think it's a good thing for the team. It sets a good record to my CV if I were to make one,"

She adds if they stick to coach Mbatha’s instructions they have an advantage in the semi-finals later this week.

"I scored with the help of my teammates of course, according to how we pass, pass to go through and we scored. The goals I scored are a team goal. It was good work from the teams and I. We did great. More aggression towards how we play, more confidence.

Obviously, we are more nervous before the game because we aren't sure how the opponents play. But throughout the game, we wake up early and we see how we play. We will be ready for our semi-finals, we'll play to win," she concluded.
