Eric Tinkler sends a message to CT City’s incoming players

Cape Town City coach Eric Tinkler says he expects their newest signings to understand the ambitions of the club.

The Citizens finished fifth in the DStv Premiership and want to aim higher for the upcoming 2024/25 season.

And for that to be the case, Tinkler wants commitment from the old and the new.

"Players shouldn't be seeing us as a stepping stone to something better, only. There's nothing wrong being ambitious and wanting to go to bigger things, there's nothing wrong with that but understand we've brought you to the club because we are a club that wants to win things," said Tinkler.

Tinkler’s remarks come on the back of a tough second half of the campaign that has just ended, where City went 11 matches without a win between February and May.

He questioned the mindset in the squad.

"That mentality has to change. They'd understand when you come to Cape Town City, we are a club that wants to finish in the top 4, we are a club that wants to get to cup finals, we are a club that wants to compete for the league and if you do all of that, you will still get the opportunity to go higher but it shouldn't be the be all and end all. The be-all and end-all should be that you are playing for Cape Town City and you wanna win and achieve things at Cape Town City," the coach explained.

SABC Sport reported that City are set to sign attacker Haashim Domingo, and Tinkler insists that he will have to be more “brutal” in assessing the fresh faces.

"We have to be a little bit more brutal at least me because ultimately the one whose head is on the block is me, you understand? So, there I need to be a lot more wise when it comes to recruitment."
