Everton boss Sean Dyche pledges improvement after shocking collapse

Everton manager Sean Dyche takes responsibility for preventing further collapses like the one that cost them their first Premier League win of the season.

Leading 2-0 at home to Bournemouth in the 87th minute, the Toffees conceded three goals.

It was a crushing blow which left Everton rooted to the foot of the table without a point and the international break, with players joining their countries, meant there was little chance to work on the issues before Thursday of this week.

However, ahead of the trip to Aston Villa Dyche will ensure the squad are reminded of the important of seeing out games.

"We're all disappointed with that and inevitably it's my responsibility," he said.

"The players, I'd like to think, over 20 months here have learned to deal with those situations. We obviously didn't on the day.

"We didn't do the things that were necessary to see the game through and we've got to continually learn from that. The game is never over.

"How we deal with that, it is more reminders. We have a group of players who are mature enough to know at that stage of the game to see it through and we just didn't do that."

Some critics pointed to late substitutions, the only two changes being the removal of Dominic Calvert-Lewin and Iliman Ndiaye in the final 10 minutes, contributing to the disarray which followed.

But Dyche dismissed that theory, insisting he had to replace players who were fatigued.

"I'm in good company, Pep Guardiola makes less than me. He ain't bad, he does all right," he added.

"I'm not putting myself in his category, I'm just suggesting that he feels he doesn't have to make substitutions and I often do myself. The team is out there for a reason.

"On this occasion it was more of a fatigue issue and being careful. I don't personally put that down to why we lost to Bournemouth as I've watched it back about 47 times.

"Opinions are always about substitutions, when they work: hero. When they don't: zero."

Captain Seamus Coleman remains doubtful for the game after sustaining an injury on Republic of Ireland duty, while Orel Mangala, who signed on loan from Lyon on transfer deadline day, is set to be in the squad.
