The 24-year-old was linked to several clubs abroad following his impressive performance for Bafana Bafana at the AFCON five months ago.
Speaking to SABC Sport, the forward insists this has not hindered him in any way.
''No, it can not be a distraction. One thing I have realised is that it can push you, but you have to stay focused. But I am still an Orlando Pirates player, I have to stay focused in the team and prepare for next season,'' said Makgopa.
Makgopa struggled for form earlier in the season, but found his footing just in time for the AFCON. But he is harsh on himself when he reflects back on the 2023/24 campaign.
''Personally, I think I didn't have a season of my desire, I think I didn't do much. But we tried and we pushed, proudly so - I can say I am proud to be a back to back champion with MTN8 and Nedbank Cup. I think we had a great season as a team,'' added Makgopa.
The former Baroka FC striker explains why being called up for the national team ahead of the continental tournament came as a “bonus”.
''I think it, you have to be strong mentally, you have to know that your time is coming - mental strength is important. So me going back to Bafana it was a bonus, because I had to fight for my space in this Orlando Pirates team, we have great players,'' he concluded.
Once part of Bafana squad at the AFCON, going all the way to winning a bronze medal, Makgopa credits coach Hugo Broos for instilling belief.
