Ex-Swallows employees take Marumo Gallants to PSL court

SABC Sport has established that former Moroka Swallows employees – and players – are currently embroiled in a dispute with Marumo Gallants over a breach of contract following the recent takeover.

The Dube Birds sold their Premier Soccer League [PSL] topflight status prior to the start of the 2024/25 season to Gallants, paving the way for the club owned by Abram Sello to return to the Betway Premiership.

While the deal was given the greenlight by the PSL executive committee as Swallows seized to exist, it appears there were some casualties when the transaction was eventually finalised.

With Gallants completing the buyout, part of the agreement was to inherit all existing contract for both players and staff.

But a few have been left in limbo.

The public broadcaster has seen documents referred to the league’s Dispute Resolution Chamber [DRC] with the employees and players in question asking for the matter to be settled.

However, those involved refused to comment on the record for fear of being victimised, while three players in Tshediso Patjie, Tumelo Mangweni and Mbulelo Wambi are being represented by the SA Football Players’ Union [SAFPU].

Even though Patjie has moved on and joined Kruger United in the Motsepe Foundation Championship, the contract breach does not fall away.

Gallants are now three matches into the new season under coach Dan Malesela and have relocated the team to Bloemfontein in the Free State, with operations run by the Gallants staff that had been there before the sale.

It’s unclear how long the PSL DRC will take to conclude the case, but the matter has been brought to their attention.

SABC Sport contacted Sello and attorney Leruma Thobejane for comment, however, there was no response at the time of publishing.
