Farook Kadodia confirms Maritzburg United name change to Durban City

Maritzburg United chairman Farook Kadodia has broken his silence on the mooted changes within the club following years of strife in Pietermaritzburg.

The 21-year-long relationship between United and the Msunduzi Municipality officially ended this week as the club released a statement announcing their departure.

Kadodia, in an exclusive Interview with Ukhozi FM on Wednesday afternoon, announced the new name as the Team of Choice switched to the eThekwini Municipality.

"For sure, the club has definitely left Pietermaritzburg. We're no longer there, and we'll be having our home base now in Durban, using Chatsworth Stadium as our home ground," confirmed Kadodia.

"The name of the club will change from Maritzburg United to Durban City, purely from the frustration of playing as Maritzburg in Sugar Ray Xulu Stadium, where you have no supporters.

"So we have to basically go out to the bottom, to the people, market the brand, attract fans to the stadium, and it's a long job – it's not going to be an easy job, but we are confident we have to make this work."

Despite the new name and logo, the colors of the club will remain the same, according to Farook Kadodia, who wants to represent Durban through their kit.

"Yes, we'll change the blue to a different blue to what we used to play with, and we're going with new trends, but the blue and white will still be part of our colours," he said.
