FC Barcelona's financial woes cast doubt over Dani Olmo signing

The midfielder, who shone during the recent Euros, was officially signed last Friday. Olmo, who began the tournament on the bench, emerged as one of the breakout stars, finishing as the competition's top scorer with three goals and two assists.

His arrival was expected to calm the anxieties of Barcelona's fans, but uncertainty still looms over whether the club can register him for La Liga competition.

Barcelona are set to kick off their league campaign this Friday, August 17, against Valencia at Mestalla, with the match scheduled for 21h30. However, the prospect of Olmo taking the field remains unclear due to the club's ongoing financial struggles, according to Cadena SER.

Despite their efforts to raise funds, Barcelona's economic issues persist. Initially, the German company Libero had agreed to purchase a 25% stake in Barca Studios, valued at 100 million euro. However, they have since backed out of the deal, refusing to pay the agreed amount.

In response, Aramark have stepped in, paying 40 million euro for the October instalment, but 60 million euro due in June remains unpaid.

Even if Barcelona managed to secure the outstanding funds, they may still fall short of meeting the 1.1 ratio regulation. This rule mandates that clubs can only spend on transfers the same amount they earn from player sales.

This situation has left Barcelona in a precarious position, as they currently cannot register new signings or even some existing squad members.

Frenkie de Jong, one of the few players with significant market value, is reportedly happy in Barcelona and unwilling to leave. Ronald Araujo is sidelined with a serious injury, making a transfer unlikely, and Raphinha's market value has declined since joining the Catalan giants.

The road ahead for Barcelona remains uncertain, with the club's financial difficulties threatening to undermine their on-field ambitions. The coming days will be crucial in determining whether they can find a solution in time for the new season.
