Finidi George breaks silence on Victor Osimhen controversy

Former Super Eagles assistant coach Finidi George has responded to Victor Osimhen's June claims, addressing the striker's allegation that he questioned his national team commitment.

The accusations sparked widespread debate within Nigerian football.

Speaking on Nigeria Info Port Harcourt, Finidi expressed his shock over Osimhen's comments.

"He called me when he was injured, saying, 'Coach, I can come and support the team.' I told him, 'No, it's a vacation period, go spend time with your family,'" Finidi explained.

He further emphasised that he had never doubted Osimhen's loyalty, saying, "I was surprised when I saw the video."

Osimhen had gone live on Instagram in June, accusing Finidi of dismissing his offer to join the team during his injury.

He voiced frustration, claiming he was unfairly blamed for the team's poor results, despite playing through injuries for Nigeria.

Finidi, now coaching Rivers United, revealed he tried to reach out to Osimhen after the video surfaced but never received a response.

"I sent him a message, but he deleted his reply before I could read it."

Despite the situation, Finidi said, "I've moved on. I wish Osimhen well in his career. We all make mistakes, but life goes on."
