Florian Wirtz injury sparks doubts for Leverkusen's Frankfurt clash

Florian Wirtz's injury in Germany's 1-0 win over the Netherlands raises doubts about his availability for Bayer Leverkusen's upcoming Bundesliga match with Eintracht Frankfurt.

The attacking midfielder was substituted at half-time, with Leverkusen confirming that he is dealing with an ankle capsule injury.

Despite initial concerns, Bayer Leverkusen's managing director for sport, Simon Rolfes, provided a positive update on the situation.

Speaking to Sky Germany, Rolfes stated, "We haven't announced that he's unavailable, only why he was substituted. He didn't train yesterday and received treatment.

"We'll see how it goes and whether he'll be available for the Frankfurt game or not. In any case, it won't be a very long story."

Although Wirtz's long-term future at the club has been a subject of speculation, with rumours suggesting a potential move in 2025, Rolfes remained calm.

"Florian is an incredibly important player for us," he added. "The dialogue with him and his family is very open and based on trust.

"The focus has always been on his development at Bayer 04, so we're not really worried about whether he'll be sold or not.

"He is here! We want to work with him, use his qualities here and be successful with him."

With the Bundesliga match against Frankfurt approaching, all eyes will be on whether Wirtz can recover in time to feature.
