Speaking to Thabiso Mosia on Game On on Radio 2000, the ex-defender added that he had spent four years at the club and when given a chance to view his opinion by the new coach, things went south.
The now retired player says seeking clarity on field issues proved to be his downfall.
"The issue there was between me and Steve Komphela, so they had to then make a decision between the two of us who must go. Steve had just joined Chiefs, I signed when he had just joined Chiefs and he was happy,” Gaxa said.
“Then there were issues between me and him and I was questioning certain things about his system and then I think from there things just went sour between us. I don't think he was inclined to have me in the team the following season based on the fact that I was questioning certain things.
“So, they needed to sacrifice one, unfortunately, they had to sacrifice me. I wasn't happy with certain things and I was asked to voice myself and I did and I said it and I think sometimes when you are a player you say something, some coaches maybe they don't like the tone or they don't like the truth.
“I think for me, it was the truth because even after I left nothing changed, it remained the same. Even today as you can see, the team is still struggling but it starts from 2016."
Gaxa says he felt the club at the time had no foundation and wanted to help but he was not understood. He believes not much has changed since then.
"I was raising field issues, issues that have to do with tactics and you know, how things need to be approached because we weren't winning games but we were getting so many draws and I think from there we then needed to ask players who were winning under Stuart Baxter a season before,” he added.
“So, I was honest, I knew that my honesty might put me in trouble but I was willing to go that far for the benefit of the team and unfortunately no one saw that at the time but I think three years later they realised maybe this guy was right.
“We just lacked basic things, you know in life there are basic principles that you cannot escape. Any building that you build there must be a foundation, if your foundation lacks it solidness that house won't last long and I was more concerned about the foundation than anything else."
