The Citizens sacked the former Bafana Bafana player after more than three years at the helm due to a string of poor results this season.
Speaking to SABC Sport, Makaringe admits the team could have done better to avoid Tinkler’s departure.
"It's always up to us to own to that and be accountable for anything that happens within the club and all of those things because at the end of the day we are the ones who are playing,” Makaringe said.
“As much as the gents have been putting in the work, you can't fault effort, you can't fault their work ethic and everything else it's just that you can never predict results. Results will always come however they come, the most important thing is to stick to what you've been doing well and that's what coach Muhsin came in and emphasised, giving that motivation and encouragement to continue doing what we've been doing right.
“Of course, he's always gonna come in with his experience and his observation in terms of where he needs to adjust and stuff."
City have since appointed Muhsin ErtuÄral in the interim and Makaringe accepts there’s big expectations at the club given the number of quality signings brought in at the beginning of the season.
The ex-Orlando Pirates midfielder is one of them.
"I think that's one of the most important things and that's been a key vital trigger in terms of how we feel about ourselves and how everyone feels about our team, the expectations,” he added.
“Maybe we feel hard done in terms of the expectations that people have of our team because of the squad that we have assembled and sometimes all you need is to keep on doing what you've been doing well, it will eventually pay off if you do it consistently and you believe in what you're doing.
“So, for us not having picked the MTN8 and all those trophies well we feel hard done and we felt disappointed but it doesn't mean that we needed to stop. We continue, we've got another new lease of life, the Nedbank Cup is up for the taking, so we can still do it."
