Fresh injury blow for Taiwo Awoniyi

Nottingham Forest have suffered a blow with the news that striker Taiwo Awoniyi is injured again.

The 27-year-old Nigerian international was forced to sit out of Forest's pre-season opener against Chesterfield on Saturday with a calf problem.

Awoniyi played just 20 league games for the Premier League club last term, contributing six goals and three assists, as he missed a large chunk of the campaign with injury.

Manager Nuno Espirito Santo said on Nottinghamshire Live: "He had a problem in the first training session of the week. Let's see how long it takes.

"It was something in his calf. Unfortunately, he wasn't right for today. Hopefully, he doesn't miss too much of pre-season, For all of them pre-season is important, and more so for Taiwo."

The Reds kicked off their pre-season with a resounding 3-0 win over League Two Chesterfield with goals from Chris Wood, Josh Bowler and Ibrahim Sangare.
