Gallants boost survival hopes with Chippa win

Ranga Chivaviro netted a hat-trick as Marumo Gallants FC boosted their survival hopes with a 3-1 victory over Chippa United at the Peter Mokaba Stadium on Wednesday evening.

Chippa interim coach Siyabulela Gwambi recalled Sirgio Kammies and Trevor Mathiane from the loss to Pirates, while Gallants brought Olivier Toure and Lebohang Mabotja back into the starting lineup following the 1-1 draw with Kaizer Chiefs.

The Chilli Boys took the lead in the 34th minute after Etiosa Ighodaro connected with Siphelele Luthuli's assist and bundled home from close range.

Gallants equalised five minutes before half-time when Chivaviro netted from the penalty spot.

The hosts went ahead six minutes later as Chivaviro got his second also from a penalty.

Chippa were desperately chasing an equaliser but Chivaviro put the game to bed and completed his hat-trick after connecting with a Katlego Otladisa delivery.

Bahlabane Ba Ntwa closed out the game comfortably to move above Chippa into 14th position on the DStv Premiership standings.
