Hunt poised over SuperSport's battle for Champions League spot

Hunt was speaking after his side's 2-1 victory over Golden Arrows at Lucas Moripe Stadium in Atteridgeville on Sunday evening, which saw United restore their five-point gap between them and Soweto giants Orlando Pirates and Kaizer Chiefs.

It was not an easy win for the hosts, especially towards the end as Arrows pulled one back through Zimbabwean international Knox Mutizwa from the penalty spot, but Hunt felt the visitors were given a lifeline through the "soft" decision.

"Ja, look, it was important... There was no danger at 2-0, there was never [much threat]. Was it a penalty? I don't know, it looked a bit soft, but ja, and then we made hard work of it," said Hunt.

"But there were a couple big chances, even when they had all the pressure on us at the end, which we didn't score.

"But all in all, it would have been a bit of an injustice I think [if they equalised]. They threw the kitchen sink at us in the end, which is understandable, but they'd been given a lifeline, so it's a bit disappointing from that perspective."

With eight games to go, Hunt says they should achieve their objective if they continue grinding out the results and sticking to the basics.

"Ja, [we've] just got to keep going, I mean, we've got how many games left? Eight games left, so I'm not sure how many at home – four or five? It's like equal now, so we'll just try and approach them [as usual]," he added.

"We've got Pirates next, away. As long as everything is done accordingly, we'll be fine. We've got a lot of players sitting on suspension, so that's another problem but we've got two weeks now to regroup and go again."

Matsatsantsa will be starved of action for the next fortnight as the Nedbank Cup last 16 fixtures take centre stage this weekend after they were eliminated at the first hurdle by Dondol Stars, who take on AmaZulu on Wednesday evening.
