Ghana's Mohammed Umar Joins FC Politehnica Iasi in ambitious move

Ghanaian defender Mohammed Umar made headlines with his signing for Romanian SuperLiga club FC Politehnica Iasi on a contract that will keep him at the club until 2027.

The centre-back, who joined as a free agent, was a standout performer at Finnish club Ilves, where he played a pivotal role in their defensive line.

Umar's time at Ilves was marked by success, including a Finnish Cup victory and a memorable run that saw the club qualify for the Europa League in his final season.

Reflecting on his journey, Umar stated, "Winning the cup was a dream come true, and I'm eager to bring that winning mentality to Iasi."

Since joining Politehnica, Umar has already appeared in cup competitions and is anticipated to make his league debut shortly.

Currently, FC Politehnica Iasi sits 11th in the league standings, accumulating 17 points from 14 matches, and Umar's arrival could prove crucial as the team looks to climb the table.
