Give Lesiba Nku more time - Rulani Mokwena to Sundowns fans

Mamelodi Sundowns coach Rulani Mokwena has pleaded with the club’s supporters to give winger Lesiba Nku more time.

The 27-year-old joined Downs from Marumo Gallants, who were relegated last season, and his arrival has constantly been questioned.

Following their 1-0 win against Royal AM on Saturday to keep their DStv Premiership unbeaten run intact, Mokwena spoke about Nku.

"There was a time when Real Madrid signed Luka Modrić and the Real Madrid fans were not so convinced and it's funny because the Sundowns fans forget very quickly how Neo Maema came and there were question marks. How Khuliso Mudau came and there were question marks. I can go on and on but they improved because of coaching and the work that we do behind the scenes. I'm just pleading with the Sundowns supporters to be a bit more patient with Lesiba Nku," Mokwena said.

Nku came off the bench to replace Thembinkosi Lorch, making his 25th appearance for Sundowns. Mokwena explained why the attacker is one to watch.

"He's got so many weapons. Players like Lesiba Nku succeed in football and at big clubs because they've got weapons. He dribbles, he's fast, he defends, he counter presses, he's always in the box, watch, Lesiba Nku always runs into the box from wide positions," Mokwe added.

Although Nku has a healthy return of matches played in his debut season, Mokwena says the player is still adjusting.

"A player with those type of qualities for a big club is a huge asset and there's just an adaptation that needs to take place because part of his development in his career and his education also is a little bit of trauma. You must understand you are playing for a team that's fighting relegation and gets relegated and you are a key player and so of course there's a sense of accountability that takes place. So, psychologically you've got to overcome that before you have to adapt to playing for a big team."
