Given Msimango promises a tactically improved Kaizer Chiefs

Kaizer Chiefs centre-back Given Msimango says Amakhosi fans can expect some improved tactical discipline when they get their Betway Premiership season underway tomorrow.

Chiefs’ first game in the 2024/2025 season sees them travel to Bloemfontein to face Marumo Gallants, and there are a lot of expectations from the new technical team led by head coach Nasreddine Nabi.

Desperate to improve from their 10th-place finish last season, Msimango says a different tactical approach can be expected.

"I'd love to believe so. There's a lot of work that has been done from a tactical level to try and improve the team holistically, and not just the defensive block," said Msimango.

"So it's something the coach has been working on, and we're still working on it – we have yet to perfect it, it's a work in progress, but I'm sure by the weekend we'll be ready for the first game."

The last time Chiefs visited Free State Stadium, it was not a pleasant experience as they were hammered 4-0 by Tanzanian giants Young Africans in pre-season.

With four new defenders, as well as a defensive midfielder and goalkeeper among their new signings, Msimango supports the team’s strengthening of the defence.

"The team has, of course, made a lot of signings as they felt we needed to strengthen our defensive line, and they've acquired two – or three, or four – quality players," he added.

"Ja, it's Bongani [Sam], [Bradley] Cross, [Inacio] Miguel, and [Rushwin] Dortley – all quality players who will add value to the team, and they're gelling well together, so the team is doing well and we're happy to have them."
