Haashim Domingo starting over at Cape Town City after Raja Casablanca saga

Cape Town City attacker Haashim Domingo says he is ready to turn over a new page at the club following his Raja Casablanca stint.

The 28-year-old had barely settled in Morocco when his spell ended early last season due to a breach of contract and the matter being referred to FIFA.

City moved quickly to sign Domingo, who wants to put the Raja saga behind him.

"To be honest that is a book that I've closed and I don't wanna open that book again. It's an experience that I went through and I just wanna leave it there, I don't wanna get into that. Also, when it comes to Bafana, I would like to tick that box but I'll just take it one game at a time, my focus now is just to play. To continue working hard and just not lose the love of the game,” Domingo said.

“I felt like I've lost it over the previous year being on that side, I just wanna enjoy my football again and I think then everything else will fall into place. Most definitely, it's been 11 years since I've been in Cape Town. So, it does help, I feel at home, I am at home. Also, the club, the way it's run really makes it easy, so I think it's a good thing for me as well."

Domingo brings a wealth of experience given his time in Portugal and Norway before joining Bidvest Wits and later Sundowns.

He said going to Europe helped improve his game.

"Most definitely, I think being overseas, it brings the discipline aspect where I feel in South Africa we lack and when I say discipline it's more a tactical discipline. In South Africa, we are similar to the Brazilians where we showcase our talent but we move all over the field and I think going to Europe has given me the discipline to stay in my zones and that took my game to the next level."

Domingo’s ambition is to win every trophy on offer with City, starting with the MTN8.

The Citizens will face Sekhukhune United on Saturday afternoon at Peter Mokaba Stadium.

"Listen, I'm a winner so I would like to go all the way whether it's the MTN8, compete for the league, with regards to the team I think we can with the balance of experience and youngsters coming through because we have some good youngsters. I think we can compete, we stand a very good chance."
