Hansi Flick hails Barcelona's resilience in tough win over Getafe

FC Barcelona manager Hansi Flick expressed his pride in his team's performance as they narrowly defeated Getafe 1-0 in La Liga at Montjuic.

Flick commended the defensive resilience of Getafe, praised young talent Lamine Yamal, and addressed the possible need to sign an experienced goalkeeper following Marc-Andre ter Stegen's injury.

"Getafe are known for their defensive strength, and today was no different," Flick remarked. "I'm immensely proud of my players for battling hard over the 95 minutes. The fans were fantastic, and we felt their support right when we needed it."

Barcelona's sole goal came in a match of few clear-cut chances. Flick noted, "We had our opportunity and made it count, while Getafe couldn't capitalise on theirs. It's not easy breaking down such a compact defence, but we finally found the goal that secured us the three points."

Flick took time to acknowledge the 16-year-old sensation Lamine Yamal, who dazzled once again. "He's a special talent, and the crowd can sense that. It's important we protect all players, especially youngsters, but that's for the referees to manage."

With Ter Stegen out injured, Flick discussed the possibility of bringing in a veteran goalkeeper. "I'm focused on the players we have, and Inaki Pena did well today. But with him being 25 and the rest of our keepers even younger, we've debated the need for someone with experience. We're actively considering it."

Goal scorer Robert Lewandowski was again crucial, and Flick didn't hold back his praise. "For me, he's the best number nine of the last decade. His goal today was brilliant, and he did what's expected of him in front of the net. We're building a team around him, and his contribution today was invaluable."

Despite the narrow victory, Flick felt his side deserved the win. "We could have scored more, Eric and Raphael had chances, but we managed to secure the three points. It was a tough match, even from the touchline."

"We played compactly and stuck to our plan," Flick analysed. "At half-time, I told the lads to increase the speed of our passes, and it paid off."

Eric Garcia received special mention from Flick. "He's been fantastic, whether in midfield or defence. I'm very pleased with how he's performed."

Flick concluded with optimism, "We've worked hard on our game, and today's win was the result. There's always room for improvement, but the players showed great quality and determination."

The manager emphasised focusing on the next challenge against Osasuna on Saturday night at El Sadar Stadium, adding, "I'm not concerned about breaking records. It's all about taking things one step at a time."
