Hansi Flick praises Barcelona's focus and form in Belgrade victory

Barcelona manager Hansi Flick expressed his satisfaction after his side's impressive 5-2 away victory over Red Star Belgrade in the Champions League group stage, highlighting the significance of securing points away from home.

The Barca goals were scored by Inigo Martinez, a brace by Robert Lewandowski, Raphinha and Fermin Lopez.

Flick commended his players' commitment, control on the ball, and defensive organisation in a challenging away fixture.

"These are three crucial points," Flick emphasised. "Winning on the road in this competition is never easy, so it's a result to be proud of."

Reflecting on the team's overall performance, Flick said, "I'm very pleased. We played well with the ball, maintained high pressure, and defended as a unit. I value the progress we're making as a team."

He also acknowledged the strength of Red Star Belgrade, noting, "They're tough opponents who know how to keep possession, making it difficult to defend. My team stayed focused and stuck to the plan."

"The squad is performing brilliantly," Flick continued. "We have a winning mentality. They're playing at a high level, and I'm enjoying seeing this consistency in results. The players have remained fully focused throughout."

On young defender Pau Cubarsi, Flick shared, "He's doing well. He took a few knocks and needed some stitches, but he's young, he's got spirit, he's smiling."

Robert Lewandowski's remarkable 99-goal milestone was noted, though Flick admitted, "I wasn't aware he was on 99, if I'd known, I might've left him on longer! He played well today, but we need to think ahead. He's crucial to us, but I try to stay focused on the next match, which is why I subbed him off."

Flick was full of praise for Jules Kounde, saying, "He's a fantastic example for the squad. His performance levels are rising, and he's extremely focused. Today's assists show his quality, he's a true professional."

The Barca coach acknowledged an area for improvement in their defensive transitions, noting, "I don't particularly enjoy seeing us having to sprint back in certain situations, but this is how we want to play, unified and compact. The backline needs to stay alert."

On the importance of Frenkie de Jong, Flick explained, "The plan with Frenkie was straightforward, he's our captain and a vital part of this team. Maintaining a strong connection with the players is key to our success."

Barcelona now look ahead, buoyed by their away win and encouraged by Flick's blend of tactical precision and trust in his players.
