Helman Mkhalele contemplates Bafana Bafana changes in hunt for goals

Bafana Bafana assistant coach Helman Mkhalele says he is tempted to start both forwards Thabang Sibanyoni and Ashley Cupido in their final COSAFA Cup group stage clash tomorrow.

South Africa have managed successive draws against Mozambique and Botswana, and want all three points when they face Eswatini to guarantee a place in the semi-finals.

Mkhalele, who is in charge for the regional tournament, elaborated on this potential tactical switch.

"I was sitting and saying, 'I'm bringing in Ashley so take out Thabang', but it's one of those things I will have to look into, to make sure that [we figure out] how can we bring [both on]," said Mkhalele.

"A decision I need to take is maybe, should I bring him [Cupido] in to support Thabang?"

Bafana’s only goal in the competition so far came from defender and captain Rushwin Dortley, who scored in their opening 1-1 draw with Mozambique.

Mkhalele admits he has noticed a lack of support for Sibanyoni, who was a lone ranger upfront in the two games played so far.

"There was no aerial support for all the aerial balls won by Thabang, so if we bring someone who's a sniffer, especially a person who can bang in goals, that would be another option," he added.

"Now I know where they are – almost all of them, by giving them a few minutes, and now we're starting to see who is where in terms of their fitness, mental, emotional level, as well as technical and tactical level."
