Bafana drew the first blood in the first half, scoring through the GOAT, Themba “Mshishi” Zwane, just after the half-hour mark.
The hosts responded at the beginning of the second half through Fisayo Dele-Bashiru. After having had some traveling challenges to Uyo, in a trip that took close to 30 hours, Broos was happy with the hard-earned point.
"The result is correct, a draw, we had our chances, Nigeria had their chances but I have to congratulate my players as you know we had a terrible travel to Nigeria on Wednesday, we were only in bed at 2 o'clock in the morning, Thursday morning. So, we were 20 hours on the way and when you see the mentality in the team today then I can only be proud of my players," Broos said.
"It was a tough game against a good team but the first half I think we played fantastic football. We had some chances, we could have scored a 2-0 maybe then the game was played and it was a little bit unlucky from our side that after two minutes in the second half we received a goal and you know that it will be difficult but again we fought for it from the 46th till the 95th minute and again I think the result is correct."
In a fiercely competitive six-team group, Bafana Bafana currently stands fourth with four points, level with Rwanda and Benin, who hold a superior goal difference.
Nigeria, yet to secure a win after three matches, trails Bafana with three points. Broos, recognizing the challenge, is pleased to be returning with a point from what is arguably their toughest opponent in Group C.
"Normally, when you see the draw of the group then you know that Nigeria will be your biggest opponent to be first in the group so when you come here you hope to have a minimum of one point. So, not to lose that was very important for us today."
