It was an improved performance from their previous international week, which saw Bafana draw at home with Uganda before snatching a late win against South Sudan.
This time, Broos’ charges stamped their authority early on in front of a capacity crowd at Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium in Gqeberha, and the coach was full of praise.
"What can I say after a performance like tonight? I think it was amazing, the way we started the game, the way we played football – this was something I always wanted to see from this team," said Broos.
"We did so at AFCON too, but today it was really fantastic – five goals, good football, modern football, forward football, high rhythm in the game, and that shows again what a group of players I have.
"It's a group of players of which I'm very proud, and I've said it before too, but those guys know when they have to perform.
"We had a little decompression in September, and we spoke about it, and now you see the reaction today – those guys wanted to make a statement and they made a statement with good football."
The result saw Bafana equal their biggest win since readmission in 1992, which was also a 5-0 scoreline against Guatemala in an international friendly in 2010, however, the victory over of Congo will go down as the biggest-ever in a competitive fixture.
