I believe, I’m good enough to lead the attack – Wandile Duba

A confident Kaizer Chiefs young striker, Wandile Duba, has made it clear that he’s good enough to lead the club’s attack, with good service from his midfield.

Duba, who recently scored a brace against Stellenbosch FC during a 2-1 win, is now a joint top goal scorer at the club with another young sensation, Mduduzi Shabalala, tied on four goals each in the Betway Premiership.

The club’s head coach, Nasreddine Nabi, has been forced to rely on the youngsters as Amakhosi’s senior attackers have struggled to find the back of the net.

The 20-year-old believes he has what it takes to lead Chiefs’ attack.

"I think playing for Kaizer Chiefs as number nine obviously you have to score goals and I don't know if coach wants to play me as number nine or the wing, I'm not sure. He hasn't spoken to me [about it]," Duba said.

"As you all know my comfortable position is a number nine. I came at Chiefs playing as a number nine. I think I can play that position alone, as long as they give me the balls, I can score the goals."

Duba, who joined the Chiefs academy from Jozi Stars in the Gauteng Development League (GDL), says he’s also been comfortable around some of the players he’s been promoted with, like Shabalala, Mfundo Vilakazi and Samkelo Zwane, because of the understanding from the reserve team.

This season, he has also been played more on the wing, and he explains why he opts to invert instead of crossing the ball.

"I think it came from the DDC, we understand each other from the DDC, so coming this side, it hasn't changed, it's just that I've been playing in the, I can't say wrong position but in a different position,” he added.

“I think as a nine, we have a better understanding, the three of us from the DDC. I think when I'm playing on the wing I'm always playing with Ashley DuPreez, so, you can't cross the ball to Ashley Du Preez against tall SuperSport defenders, so it's better to cut in, find those passes or have a short at goal."
