Injured Newcastle striker Callum Wilson to miss Forest, Tottenham games

Newcastle United striker Callum Wilson will only be available again after the upcoming international break, according to head coach Eddie Howe.

The 32-year-old forward, who has been dealing with a back issue since pre-season, is now expected to be side-lined for at least two months.

"Callum is continuing his rehabilitation from injury," Howe told The Gazette.

"I am happy with his progress. He is working very hard, as he always does.

"We miss him, he adds a different dynamic. He is such an important character around the squad, we hope to get him back soon, [but] he definitely won't be back before the international break."

Wilson initially returned to pre-season training in July and even travelled with the squad to Germany.

However, he withdrew from training due to persistent back problems, which ultimately required a small procedure.

Despite Howe's early optimism that Wilson would miss only the first couple of games of the 2024-25 campaign, the striker's absence has extended far beyond that.

Wilson missed all of Newcastle's pre-season matches and the opening games of the season.

He will also be unavailable for the upcoming Carabao Cup clash against Nottingham Forest on Wednesday and the Premier League fixture against Tottenham Hotspur at St James' Park on Sunday.

His earliest expected return is for the match against Wolverhampton Wanderers after the international break on September 15.
