Injury blow for Bayer Leverkusen as Amine Adli faces lengthy layoff

Bayer 04 Leverkusen have delivered a disheartening update regarding Amine Adli's injury, confirming the Moroccan international would undergo surgery for a fractured fibula.

The injury occurred during the team's 1-1 draw against Stade Brest in the Champions League on Wednesday, where Adli was substituted after just 18 minutes on the pitch.

Head coach Xabi Alonso provided insight into the situation during a press conference, describing the moment Adli was forced off after a challenge from Soumaila Coulibaly.

"Amine was hit on the ankle, and everyone could see from his reaction that it was very painful," Alonso noted, indicating the severity of the injury.

He added, "It doesn't look good; we'll have to wait and see. That's the worst news of the day."

Adli's absence is a significant blow for Leverkusen, as the 24-year-old has struggled to find his rhythm this season, failing to score in 11 appearances, including three starts.

Despite coming off the bench in the 63rd minute against Brest, he was unable to contribute before sustaining the injury.

In the match, Leverkusen took the lead with a goal from Florian Wirtz but ultimately had to settle for a draw after Pierre Lees-Melou equalised.

Alonso reflected on the game, stating, "We did very well until the 1-1 goal. We were in control, but the goal we conceded unsettled us."
