Chelsea have revealed that winger Mykhailo Mudryk has sustained an injury during a training session, rendering him unavailable for the Luton Town fixture.
Concerns about Mudryk's fitness arose earlier in the week when he was notably absent from a team training session. Chelsea have now verified that Mudryk's condition is undergoing rehabilitation after a comprehensive assessment, although they have refrained from specifying the nature of the injury.
Manager Mauricio Pochettino, in his press conference, reassured that the injury is not of a serious nature.
Valued at £88.5million, Mudryk joins the ranks of nine sidelined Chelsea players, including Benoit Badiashile, Marcus Bettinelli, Trevoh Chalobah, Armando Broja, Carney Chukwuemeka, Wesley Fofana, Christopher Nkunku, and captain Reece James.
In the Premier League, only Sheffield United have more players currently dealing with injuries than Chelsea, with the Blades still missing ten members of their squad.
Among Chelsea's injured contingent, Broja and Badiashile are making progress toward their returns. A club statement highlighted that both are in the "final stages" of their respective recovery programs.
However, neither will be fit to participate in the Luton match, compelling Pochettino to navigate the fixture with a limited roster.
Mudryk has made substitute appearances in both of Chelsea's matches this season but is yet to secure his first goal for the club. Despite 19 appearances in the past eight months, he has not managed to find the back of the net.
