Borussia Dortmund's Bundesliga campaign encounters a hiccup as Jadon Sancho faces a setback due to a muscle injury, with coach Edin Terzic attributing it partially to his prolonged absence at Manchester United.
Sancho, 23, had been sidelined since August before his return to Dortmund on loan, where he swiftly notched two assists in three appearances. However, his rift with Manchester United's manager Erik ten Hag following a game against Arsenal hindered his progress, restricting him to only three outings for the Red Devils.
Despite the lack of recent game time, Terzic opted to field Sancho just two days after his comeback, noting the player's efforts to maintain fitness during his hiatus. Nonetheless, the winger's availability for Friday's Bundesliga match against Heidenheim hangs in the balance due to his current setback.
Addressing the media ahead of the upcoming fixture, Terzic stated, "Jadon currently has muscular problems in the adductor area, which is not surprising after his long break. We will wait and see how things develop over the next two days and decide at short notice whether he will travel with us to Heidenheim."
Dortmund, enjoying a resurgence in the New Year, showcased their prowess by clinching three consecutive victories, outscoring opponents 10-1. Their recent triumph over regional rivals Bochum, with a 3-1 scoreline, propelled them to fourth place in the Bundesliga standings.
However, their squad roster faces additional challenges as Julian Brandt, Marco Reus, and Gregor Kobel are yet to resume training this week, casting doubts over their availability for the pivotal clash against Heidenheim.
