The former Bafana Bafana goalkeeper has replaced Musa Langa as the new goalkeeper coach for Usuthu. AmaZulu made massive changes to their technical team at the end of last season.
Speaking exclusively with SABC Sport at the KZN Premiers Cup at Sugar Ray Xulu Sandilands says he feels honoured to be part of the Usuthu family.
"It's a privilege for me to be a part of this club. I mean, it's a club with a lot of history. It's been in South African football for so long. You have a chairman that has got a vision and he's doing everything within his power to reignite this giant that is AmaZulu," Sandilands said.
The former PSL keeper joined AmaZulu from Maritzburg United who have since been relegated from the DSTV Premiership. The coach says following the axe from Farook Kadodia he approached Usuthu.
"Our time at Maritzburg was up at the end of last season, so it was a matter of speaking with the chairman and meeting with the coaches here that were newly appointed and everything kinda just fell into place from there," he added.
Speaking about Usuthu's goalkeeping department the coach says he believes the goalkeepers they have in the team can push each other to the best of their abilities.
"Veli speaks for himself, he's an experienced goalkeeper at international level. He's shown himself to be able to handle international football, so it's great for the club to have a keeper of his caliber.
We just need a hungry Veli, a Veli that's willing to improve, a Veli that wants to take his game to another level. So, that's part of my aspirations for him, it's to try and bring him to his full potential.
Again with Olwethu, he's a guy that's shown himself at international level now at COSAFA. I think he needs to continue to work hard and I think it's gonna be good for him to challenge Veli and Veli to help push him as well."
