Jessica Motaung on the newly created African Club Association

Commercialization of African football clubs is one of the main priorities of the newly created African Club Association (ACA) according to the newly appointed Vice-Chairperson Jessica Motaung.

The inaugural ACA congress was held in Cairo, Egypt at the beginning of this month and Motaung is part of the first ACA board led by the President of Tanzanian football giants Young Africans (Yanga) Hersi Said.

Part of ACA’s objectives are to protect and promote the interests of African football clubs and ensure that they are commercially viable, globally competitive, and profitable.

The Kaizer Chiefs Marketing Director says her experience in the Premier Soccer League (PSL) comes in handy.

"I must say what an amazing initiative. You look at what's happening in Europe with the ECA and as for us as African clubs and having worked with the club and having worked with the PSL, I think it's such a good opportunity for me to give back. Clubs on the continent need to commercialise, to grow their brands. We need a great platform for our young talent to flourish. So, I'm quite excited about the conversation of our board and very privileged to have been elected the vice-chair of the whole organisation," Motaung said.

Motaung is part of the group of young football administrators from South Africa, who are playing their role in turning the fortunes of African football around.

Other young football administrators from SA, who are flying the rainbow flag high on the continent, include Luxolo September, Senzo Mbatha, Kabelo Bosilong and many more. These are young administrators, who are not just locked in this cocoon that local football is the best but want to play on the bigger stage. Motaung says together with Said and the new board there is a lot that they can achieve at ACA.

"Very excited about that and Hersi [Said] is such an amazing young man, he's done such a great job with Yanga and they hosted Kaizer Chiefs in Tanzania. So, the team got to see him first hand and see the work that's been done there and the commercialisation that's happening there. I'm quite excited to work with him,” Motaung added.

“I think it's also good to see young people coming into the game, the likeminded people coming into the game. I'm looking forward to us crafting a really good vision. What I love about this is it's a new canvas. We can really create a fantastic product out of this and the enthusiasm of the entire board is amazing."
