Jessica Motaung welcomes CAF’s R7,1 million injection to ACA

African Club Association (ACA) deputy chairperson Jessica Motaung has revealed the Confederation of African Football (CAF) recently injected $400 000 (R7,1 million) into their coffers to help set up offices and structures.

The ACA, a body modelled around the European Club Association (ECA) – which houses almost all the European football clubs together, was formed in November last year with the hope that it can follow in the footsteps of the ECA.

Motaung said, besides the CAF funding, they are also lining up some sponsors for the ACA.

"I'm also very thankful to CAF in terms of the funding that they've made available not just to clubs but also to the ACA to be able to get the traction now that we need,” Motaung said.

“If you notice from the last reports, CAF have obviously at the last meeting confirmed certain funding that will go to clubs as well as to the ACA. So, that is helping and obviously we are speaking to key sponsors and key stakeholders who we think will be able to take us to the next level.”

Motaung also revealed they recently met with CAF president Patrice Motsepe, who engineered the formation of the ACA, and they are now identifying a host city for their offices, which will possibly be in Côte d'Ivoire.

"We are still in that process, we're working quite hard, we've worked in the foundation of things and we had a meeting with the CAF president and I'm hoping that we'll have more progress and engage a lot more,” she explained.

“There's a lot happening at club football level and there's a lot of work to be done. So I'm hoping the administration and the red tape can be dealt with but looking at the support that CAF is giving us, I think I'm very hopeful with the progress and hope to report some advances in the future."

"Well, I think it's issues of finalising obviously the host city or host country and also understanding and putting together all our final strategic approach but I'm glad there's been a lot of work I must say.

There's been a small group of staff that’s really committed themselves to that and the board has looked at certain strategic things we need to do. I think it's around implementation now. It's a big animal that we are dealing with and we need to do it properly. So, I think the foundation has been set."
