Jonathan Tah sets sights on free transfer from Bayer Leverkusen

Jonathan Tah has confirmed his intention to leave Bayer Leverkusen on a free transfer when his contract expires in the summer of 2025.

This follows a failed transfer to Bayern Munich earlier this year, as the two clubs could not agree on terms.

In an interview with Suddeutsche Zeitung, Tah explained, "My decision is as clear as it was before. I will not be extending my contract.

"I still have a contract until 2025, and until then, I will give everything for Leverkusen."

After a nine-year tenure with Leverkusen, the central defender feels it's time for a new challenge.

Tah clarified, "I didn't want to leave Leverkusen because I don't feel comfortable here. Quite the opposite. The love I feel for this club will never go away."

He added, "A football career is short, and that's why it's always been my idea to get everything out of it that's possible.

"Last season was extremely successful, and I felt it was the right time for a new experience."

Despite the transfer setback, Tah remains appreciative of Leverkusen's support. "I'm certainly not going to point the finger at this club, to whom I owe so much," he stated.

"I really appreciate the fact that they want me to stay for sporting and human reasons. That's a nice feeling too."
