Riveiro, having arrived under much doubt and pessimism back in June 2022, has already won five cup trophies in his time at the club, but now notched up a century of matches, of which he has won 62, drawn 17, and lost just 21.
Asked if he expected to achieve this milestone, the Spaniard asserted his belief that he would see out his initial three-year contract, of which he is currently in his last year.
"We started a new project here like you said two years and four months ago with a three-year contract. So, every time you start a project you want to finish the project. Obviously, not counting how many games you are gonna be in charge but you come with the intention and the illusion to do your best,” Riveiro said.
“So, it's a privilege for me, it's an honour to get this opportunity to be in this position that I am right now, to represent a club like Orlando Pirates in a position of a head coach. I'm a very fortunate person to have that honour, one more time."
Riveiro also noted the players' role in his longevity at the helm, as without them achieving the desired results, he would not have been able to keep his job.
"The number of games is related to our performance, with the fact that we have an excellent team. This season, one season ago, and two seasons ago we managed always to compete properly, sometimes if you go through those 100 matches, I think you will find higher amounts of good moments than bad moments for us as a team,” the coach added.
“Like you said, I think it's good to say today but tomorrow it's anecdotic, we will be thinking the 101 and then the next one but I'm not gonna lie, I'm proud of what we've achieved as a team so far and looking to the future with optimism and illusions."
