Jose Riveiro: Orlando Pirates will be active in transfer window

Orlando Pirates coach Jose Riveiro says they won’t miss the opportunity to strengthen their squad following their progression to the CAF Champions League quarter-finals.

Pirates registered a squad of 40 players before the tournament started, but three have already left the team as they now face a grueling last five months of the season, in which they will be competing on three fronts.

They have been linked with some top players in this transfer window, and Riveiro has hinted that some additions can be expected this month.

"We have a fantastic group of players, in terms of quality talent and also numbers, but again, all the big teams – and we are one of them – have the obligation to keep one eye on the market every time there's an opportunity," said Riveiro.

"Teams are permanently looking for – and not only in the playing squad, it's also about coaching staff and many things we're trying to do to be more and more competitive.

"If it's not in this window, it will be in the next one, but the club is obviously always trying to strengthen the team, and it's a market period now so let' see what happens with all of us."

Stellenbosch FC have also confirmed their places in the Confederation Cup last eight, while Mamelodi Sundowns could seal qualification in the Champions League this weekend, and Riveiro says this augurs well for Bafana Bafana going forward.

"Congratulations to Stellenbosch as well, I think it's a very good year for South African football, and my way of thinking is that national teams are a reflection of your own [country's] football," he added.

"When the national team is doing well, like Bafana right now, it's because there's something happening in our football right now – it's good for the league and it's a true reflection of what happened in the last AFCON and the level of SA players."
