Joshua Kimmich frustrated following Bayern Munich loss

The match unfolded on Sunday, marked by an unexpected 64th minute substitution of key player Joshua Kimmich by coach Thomas Tuchel, aiming to salvage the situation having fallen behind in the 59th minute thanks to a goal from Mitchell Weiser.

Kimmich, a linchpin for Bayern, showcased visible frustration as he found himself off the pitch.

Post-match, Sport1 questioned Kimmich about his feelings on the substitution. The 28-year-old responded with a terse acknowledgment of the situation, admitting his desire to be on the field for the entirety of the game, especially when the team was trailing.

"Of course, I always want to be on the pitch for 90 minutes, especially when we're behind. That's normal, it's the same for every player. Everyone wants to do everything they can to help the team win," Kimmich stated.

Reflecting on the defeat, Kimmich analysed that Werder Bremen seemed hungrier for victory than Bayern. He emphasized the team's failure to match the opponent's intensity, a critical observation given Bayern's status as a football powerhouse.

Bayern coach Tuchel, not mincing his words, openly criticized his team for their inconsistent performance, labelling the defeat as "deserved." Despite expressing satisfaction with the team's training leading up to the game, Tuchel pointed out the evident gap between training and matchday performance.

"You have to ask the players. We played inconsistently, it was a deserved defeat," Tuchel asserted. The coach, with ample experience, stressed the need for the players to deliver not just in training but more crucially on matchdays.

The defeat pushed Bayern further down the Bundesliga ladder, now trailing seven points behind leaders Bayer Leverkusen. Tuchel expressed his dismay, highlighting the team's lacklustre approach in a manner inconsistent with their position in the league.

"We played as if we had a 10-point lead and a Champions League game on Tuesday. But with Leverkusen's results, we have to show a different face," Tuchel declared, demanding a swift and effective solution to the team's current challenges.

The postponement of Wednesday's match against Union Berlin adds further complexity to Bayern's situation, requiring immediate rectification to stay competitive in the Bundesliga race.
