Joshua Kimmich’s future brightens with Bayern Munich contract talks

Joshua Kimmich has edged closer to securing his future at Bundesliga giants Bayern Munich.

The German midfielder, a key figure in Bayern's squad, was part of the team that travelled to South Korea for a brief pre-season tour. Kimmich, 29, has expressed his desire to remain at the club which has encouraged Bayern to take significant steps toward renewing his contract.

Max Eberl, while addressing the press on Sunday, confirmed the initiation of preliminary talks with Kimmich regarding a new contract.

Eberl emphasized Kimmich's importance to Bayern, stating, "It was a very good and positive conversation. We will have further discussions. I think the general perception in Germany does not do him justice.

"Joshua was an important player for FC Bayern for many years and should continue to be so in the future."

The topic of Kimmich's future had been hotly debated in Germany over the past six months. Kimmich had publicly expressed frustration about the lack of support from Bayern during his slump in form. Additionally, numerous reports suggested that Bayern were open to offers for Kimmich during the summer transfer window.

Despite the uncertainty, Kimmich's eagerness to stay in Munich has led Bayern to decide to retain him. The club aims to finalize a new contract in the coming days, with hopes of reaching an agreement before the end of the year.

Interest in Kimmich has come from major clubs. Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) were keen on strengthening their midfield with Kimmich, according to Sky Sports, but the German midfielder showed no interest in a move to Paris. Manchester City also expressed interest, though no concrete negotiations have taken place.

Bayern face the challenge of reducing their wage bill and have sought to negotiate a new contract with Kimmich on reduced terms. This presents a pivotal moment for Kimmich, as it will likely to be the last major contract of his career.

Financial terms are not the only aspect under consideration; clarity about Kimmich's role within the squad is also crucial. The arrival of new signing Joao Palhinha means that Kimmich will face competition for the number six position. Additionally, he might have to adapt to playing more frequently as a right-back.

The next few weeks are set to be crucial as Bayern and Kimmich work towards a new deal. This period of contract talks is seen as a defining moment for Kimmich, as he looked to extend his already impressive career at Bayern.
