The Ghanaian striker was dismissed in the 4-1 Premier League defeat last week for poking Micky van de Ven in the face following what he felt was a rash challenge, and later lashing out at Pape Sarr.
The Hammers have since beaten Manchester United 2-1 without the suspended Kudus, who is set to miss the club's next two top flight games, against Nottingham Forest and Everton.
Lopetegui said on Ghanasoccernet: "He (Mohammed Kudus) has to improve his temperament because this can't happen.
"I am sure this will be the last time it happens. The only way to handle frustration is to focus on the match because these kinds of behaviours can ruin the game.
"He will learn from this incident, and his behaviour will be better in the future."
