Nyandeni sent a request to rejoin the Blue Diamond, having left TS Galaxy Queens following just one season at The Rockets.
Speaking to SABC Sport, Van Wyk explained that the club could not afford to turn down a player of Nyandeni’s calibre.
"It was a very unexpected move from her. We weren't really looking to fill our squad anymore because we already had 23 players on board," explained van Wyk.
"But you never turn a player of Mpumi's calibre down or away, you always want to make use of experience and quality in certain areas, and we felt, with Mpumi wanting another change and coming back to JVW, we couldn't turn her away at all.
"So I'm not really sure about her reasoning for leaving TS Galaxy, but we're just happy that she picked us as JVW, wanting to come back to the Blue Diamonds.
"So we're very pleased to have her back in the squad and part of the group that is looking to have another successful season."
The 36-year-old forward played her first game back in JVW’s colours on Sunday, and immediately registered her name on the score-sheet in their 5-1 win over the University of Fort Hare FC at the UJ Stadium.
Nyandeni, refusing to divulge the reasons for her sudden switch, further told SABC Sport she is delighted to be back at the Bedfordview-based side, having left in 2023 to help Galaxy finish fourth in their maiden Hollywoodbets Super League campaign.
"My return to JVW is simple. Playing football and making sure I help the team achieve its goals and targets [this season]," explained the Banyana Banyana attacker.
"JVW feels like home, so hopefully everything goes well for us as a team this season."
