She has netted eight goals this season as she tries to stay within touching distance of the leading pack in only her first campaign in the South African elite women’s football. Hollis, who came through the development ranks of the Bedfordview-based club, is enjoying every minute of the challenge.
''It is very exciting and difficult to get to that point, but you need to keep the faith and try as hard as you can to score those goals. It is not easy to score the goals but I constantly push myself to score and help the team,'' said Hollis.
Hollis got a taste of Hollywoodbets Super League back in 2022 but couldn’t cope and was sent back to the junior teams to work her way up again. This season she was recalled and has been a marvel to watch.
''In the beginning it was demotivating but what doesn't kill you makes you stronger, and it is all in God's timing, you can't rush the process to be successful,'' added Hollis.
After JVW finished third last season, Hollis is confident they could repeat that feat or even take the second spot, but she adds that it will take a lot of effort from everyone.
''I have a lot of faith in my team because everyone wants to get to the top, it will not happen overnight but we have to work hard - especially in the second half of the season, everyone needs to put in the effort,'' she concluded.
Hollis has set her sights on representing Banyana Banyana someday. She says, however, that she needs to work harder before she can get a call-up.
Her star keeps on shining - just recently, Hollis walked away with the Top Goal Scorer award in the Johannesburg leg of the Engen Knockout Challenge after netting five goals.
