Kaizer Chiefs cruise into Nedbank Cup last 16

Kaizer Chiefs secured their place in the last 16 of the Nedbank Cup with a 4-0 victory over Free Agents at the FNB Stadium on Sunday evening.

The Betway Premiership side made six changes from the team that beat Sekhukhune United last weekend, with Happy Mashiane, Reeve Frosler, Thatayaone Ditlhokwe, Yusuf Maart, Nkosingiphile Ngcobo and Mfundo Vilakazi all starting.

Malking way were Bradley Cross, Njabulo Blom, Rushwin Dortley, Sibongiseni Mthethwa, Samkelo Zwane and Tebogo Potsane, while assistant coach Khalil Ben Youssef took charge of the side, for the second time, with coach Nasreddine Nabi still suspended.

Pule Mmodi (18', 26') was the hero of the first half with two goals before Inacio Miguel got in on the act in the 62nd minute. Ranga Chivaviro, who had come on in the first half for an injured Wandile Duba, then completed the scoring against the ABC Motsepe side with his goal in the 83rd minute of the tie.

The home team wasted no time in pressing their opponents and Nkosingiphile Ngcobo struck an upright after just four minutes.

Agents keeper Ugonna Igidimba then did well to keep out a Reeve Frosler shot, as Happy Mashiane made his way into the away box on ten minutes, only to be let down by his first touch at the vital moment.

Mfundo Vilakazi was off target with a shot from range soon after but Mmodi was more decisive as he latched onto a long ball forward from Amakhosi stopper Bruce Bvuma to finish well past Igidimba.

Mmodi made the most of the momentum of the first goal to quickly add a second, this time from a neat Duba lay off.

Mashiane had another opportunity to find the back of the net with the half winding down, but again he was unable to create space for a shot before being crowded out.

The first real chance of the second half fell to Vilakazi on 61 minutes, but his set piece was tipped over the bar.

But Chiefs took further control of the tie as Miguel stole in with a header from a Mashiane cross that beat substitute Agents keeper Tsebo Shabalala, who had been introduced after the break.

Saheed Adebayo was shown a red card for protesting the goal, and Chiefs secured the result with an easy finish late on from Chivaviro.
