Chiefs to trigger R3m buyout clause for Golden Arrows left back

Kaizer Chiefs are going ahead with their pursuit of left back Bradley Cross after getting the greenlight from coach Nasreddine Nabi, SABC Sport has learnt.

The Soweto giants have been in the market to fill that position despite signing Bongani Sam from Orlando Pirates in July, and Golden Arrows defender Cross is now expected to move to Naturena.

It’s understood Chiefs will trigger the player’s buyout clause, which is believed to be in the region of R3-million following an agreement in principle with the KwaZulu-Natal outfit to get it over the line.

Chiefs’ first target was Angolan international Anderson Cruz, but having not been able to secure his services from Petro de Luanda they then switched their attention to Fawaaz Basadien of Stellenbosch FC.

Stellies, however, were also reluctant to sell and this forced Amakhosi to consider Riaan Hanamub, who penned a new three-year contract to commit to AmaZulu as confirmed to the public broadcaster by president Sandile Zungu last week.

Following discussions about other options for Nabi, it was then decided Cross would be an ideal target before the start of the Betway Premiership.

Indications are that the new coach and his technical team believe the 23-year-old Cross, who did surface at Naturena for a trial more than a year ago but was not signed, will play multiple roles in the Chiefs defense.

The former Newcastle United youth academy player is expected to arrive for medicals in Johannesburg this week before agreeing terms and his move being announced officially by The Glamour Boys.

Cross will join goalkeeper Fiacre Ntwari, defenders Sam, Rushwin Dortley, Inacio Miguel and midfielder Gaston Sirino.
