Kaizer Chiefs turn attention to Riaan Hanamub

Kaizer Chiefs are understood to have turned their attention to AmaZulu defender Riaan Hanamub as the door closes on signing his Stellenbosch FC counterpart Fawaz Basadien during the current transfer window.

SABC Sport has previously reported that Amakhosi were hot on the heels of the Bafana Bafana international for some time, but are now beginning to accept that Stellies will not agree to a deal anytime soon.

As such, The Glamour Boys are going to test the waters by approaching AmaZulu for the services of Namibian international Hanamub.

The public broadcaster has also been led to believe that the Soweto giants are confident they can convince Usuthu to conclude the transfer, especially with the left back said to be in the final year of his contract.

It’s not the first time Hanamub is on the wanted list of a Gauteng club – he has previously been linked with Orlando Pirates, although those reports were rebuffed by AmaZulu president Sandile Zungu last year.

Hanamub joined the KwaZulu Natal outfit in July 2022 from Chippa United after being one of the standout players and has consistency carried that through even in the national team, helping Namibia qualify for the Africa Cup of Nations earlier this year.

The defender featured in four matches at the tournament hosted by Cote d’Ivoire as The Warriors reached the last 16 of the competition.

Chiefs had made several attempts to sign Basadien, but despite the player being keen on the move Stellies did not budge.

It’s understood they are buoyant about talks over Hanamub being successful as the offer made for Basadien could be more appealing to Usuthu.
