Kaylin Swart relishes upcoming Banyana Banyana friendlies

Banyana Banyana goalkeeper Kaylin Swart says she is excited at the prospects of facing top quality opposition before the end of the year as they prepare for the 2025 WAFCON.

The 50th world-ranked South Africa has lined up away matches against Denmark (12th), England (2nd) and Jamaica (42nd). Desiree Ellis’ charges were last in action in June when they travelled to Senegal for two international games.

Swart says the upcoming games are massive and well-deserved for the African Champions.

"Four massive games and I think we deserve those games, we deserve to play the best because we need to see where we are, regardless of missing out on the Olympics, we've grown,” Swart said.

“We are a better team, we are better individuals so matches like this will definitely see where we are and what we are capable of doing. It's exciting, it's awesome and it's obviously gonna be [challenging].

“We are gonna be thrown in the deep end a little bit but to be the best, you gotta beat the best. So, obviously we're gonna give it everything we can but we're thankful that we are able to showcase our talent against these different teams and I'm just excited to see these countries and play against these players."

Swart also showered compatriot Noxolo Cesane with praise after the former UWC star secured a move to the Saudi Pro League, becoming the first South African woman player to do so.

"Nox is a great player, she's a skilful player, she dances on the ball. She's just a special person and she deserves it, I'm so proud of her. I think she deserves to play abroad, she deserves to play outside the country,” she added.

“I wish her luck because as much as she's an 'enemy', she's my teammate, she's my friend. So, we'll be rivals on the field but off the field I love her dearly and I just wish her all the best and I know she's going to shine out there."
