This strategic acquisition marks another significant addition to their squad, continuing a trend of securing talent from their local adversaries.
In recent seasons, Sundowns have successfully brought in several key players from SuperSport – including Teboho Mokoena, Ronwen Williams, Thapelo Maseko, Aubrey Modiba, Grant Kekana, and Sipho Mbule.
The latest inclusion of Johannes aims to strengthen their defensive line further.
Johannes, who joined SuperSport from Cape Town Spurs in 2021, quickly established himself as a crucial team member – primarily playing as a right-back, though his versatility allowed him to be effective in central defence whenever required.
His adaptability and consistent performances made him a standout player, and his move to Sundowns is expected to add depth and competition to the squad.
He will immediately join his teammates on their pre-season camp in Austria, where they gear up for what is expected to be an exciting 2024/25 season for The Brazilians under a new technical team led by Manqoba Mngqithi.
Johannes' arrival means he will be competing for the right-back position with Zuko Mdunyelwa, Khuliso Mudau, and Thapelo Morena.
This competition is expected to raise the performance levels within the squad, as each player will be keen to secure a starting berth.
The 23-year-old is Sundowns' third acquisition of the current transfer window, forllowing the earlier arrivals of Kobamelo Kodisang and South American attacker Arthur Sales.
