Kwanele Kopo on his ideal job after voluntarily leaving Chippa United

Former Chippa United coach Kwanele Kopo says he’s ready for the next assignment on the technical bench and can serve in any capacity as he doesn’t have a particular preference.

Kopo was speaking during an interview with Thabiso Mosia on Radio 2000’s Game On Sports show yesterday.

Chippa announced last week that they had parted ways with Kopo, after he decided not to renew his contract that expired on the last day of December 2024.

This was Kopo’s first head coaching position in top-flight football, and now he’s on the lookout for his next assignment.

"Ready, yes, I think I am ready Thabiso but position? I'm not really a person of titles. I think you've known me for a long time, I'm a servant of football. I would like to teach, I like to develop people so I can serve in any technical capacity, head coach, assistant coach, technical advisor or technical director,” Kopo said.

“I think as long as I'm able to do what I love most and as long as I'm able to teach, as long as I'm able to improve players, to improve teams and be able to look after myself and the family but I'm available. I am ready to jump into the kitchen again as Mark Williams will put it."

Kopo has also clarified that he is the one who actually made the decision not to continue with his job at Chippa despite having done well to save the team, finished comfortably last season, and left the team in a respectable 10th position this season.

The 49-year-old is also not ruling out taking a job outside Gauteng again.

"I think the reason not really family, maybe the background to the issue of family is that obviously Chippa United offered me an extension to a contract, I think at the beginning of this season but I think they themselves thought that I would be home sick, being the first job that I had taken outside Gauteng,” he added.

“I think it's other personal reasons rather than being at home. I mean if I had to get a job now outside Gauteng, I would take it if it's the right project and if I feel that it's the right project and if it's something that excites me to do. So, that part I think maybe more from a perspective from the club."

Kopo has since been succeeded by his assistant Thabo September and former Golden Arrows co-coach Mabhuti Khanyeza.

The team occupies the 10th spot, with 14 points from 11 games, only three points outside the top four.
