Kwanele Kopo pinpoints factors behind Chippa United loss

Chippa United coach Kwanele Kopo says being inactive for 14 days affected their rhythm as they lost 1-0 to Cape Town City at Buffalo City Stadium in East London last night.

The Chilli Boys could have seen themselves move into the top three on the table with a win, but remain sixth – and could yet drop lower after the weekend’s fixtures are completed on Monday.

The hosts dominated the game in the first half, but were not clinical in the final third, as Kopo looked at their shortcomings.

"We had the upper hand in the first half, we had many box entries, and we didn't really give them space behind us, and I think they had one chance in the first half, when they took a shot and hit the bar," said Kopo.

"But, other than that, I felt we had good box entries, but I felt we were poor in the final third today, we rushed too many decisions, miss-kicked the ball – Sinoxolo [Kwayiba] when we clear.

"And then second half we were on the back foot a little bit, and it's difficult when you get caught on something you've identified [as a threat] – the ball in behind, and Kayden [Francis] rose, and I don't know if it's a deflection or he miss-kicks the ball for the goal.

"I had a feeling that we were going to struggle in the second half because we had the same situation with Magesi, [because] when you sit 14 days without playing and the other team has played, they've got a better rhythm.

"So,I felt we lost that rhythm, and it's difficult because, in that 14 days, we are not able to even get a friendly because Highbury are the only ones, and they are playing every weekend. But congratulations to Cape Town City, they had one chance and took it."
